Last month, Parallel Flight Technologies and ParaZero Drone Safety Solutions collaborated to combine specialized autonomous parachute systems with a heavy-lift, long-endurance UAV.
ParaZero’s parachute safety solution, SafeAir, aids companies in obtaining advanced use case clearances and is designed for drone delivery, BVLOS flights, and operations over people. The SafeAir technology automatically reduces flight hazards since it has integrated sensors that continuously track and examine the drone’s flight patterns for any signs of a major breakdown. The SafeAir system is immediately activated by the SmartAir Pro, the ParaZero’s internal computer, in response to a trigger. The technology turns off the drone’s power, sounds an audible alarm to warn people on the ground, and releases a small parachute to bring the drone safely and controllably to the ground.
Since the beginning of 2019, 125 US groups have obtained FAA operational clearances for flying drones equipped with ParaZero’s SafeAir system parachute technology over humans.
The Firefly uses proprietary Parallel Hybrid Electric Multirotor (PHEM) drone technology to carry a 45 kg payload (without fuel) for up to 100 minutes. This combines extremely heavy lifting and lengthy flying times. The drone’s 10x greater endurance and range compared to electric drones opens up new opportunities for precision agriculture, medical and disaster logistics, search and rescue, firefighting, and heavy sensor applications.
In addition to enabling a wider range of advanced use cases and applications for Parallel Flight’s drones, ParaZero’s newest agreement also enables UAS makers to meet performance-based safety and regulatory standards. The Firefly drone, in combination with ParaZero’s SafeAir parachute, makes for “one of the safest industrial heavy-lift drones to be found on the market.
“ParaZero’s safety systems are the preferred complement to Firefly’s built-in redundancies and safety features to mitigate ground risk and enable the regulatory permissions we need to operate,” stated Joshua Resnick, CEO of Parallel Flight. This integration demonstrates Parallel Flight’s company-wide dedication to rigorous safety and quality standards. Additionally, this enables Firefly to be ready to protect people, property, and the environment while also adding value for industrial clients around the world.
