On the afternoon of July 13, the 2023 Chinese Drone Racing Open (Hainan Free Trade Port Station) officially kicked off at Xixiu Park in Xiuying District, Haikou City. The competition attracted competitors from home and abroad and lasted until July 16th.
The tournament schedule is four days long. The competition was divided into youth group, open group, in four days, the pilots would be through the test round, qualifying rounds, and other rounds, and ultimately determine the ranking of each category. According to reports, this year’s event brought together 65 outstanding pilots from 16 cities, it is worth mentioning that this year, Hainan has realized a breakthrough of zero participants, there are four local players in Hainan to participate.
In addition, this year in the design of the race track, also highlights the characteristics of Hainan. “Hainan’s track design, fully integrated with the natural landscape, we are here for the race at the same time, but also to enjoy the beautiful scenery.” The relevant person in charge of the organizing committee of the event introduced that everyone is looking forward to the track in Hainan every year, because the venue they choose always has bright scenery, and in the design of the track, it is also more capable of letting the players give play to their flying skills, and it will attract more domestic and foreign players to come to the Hainan Free Trade Port to compete with each other.
On the 16th, the 2023 China Drone Racing Open (Hainan Free Trade Port Station) came to an end in Haikou, with Su Keming and Lu Nengyuan winning the open and youth group championships respectively, and Wen Danning winning the women’s group championship.
Most of the contestants performed well in the test round, but as the competition became more and more intense, there were more and more cases of “crashing” among the contestants, and even in the finals of each category, there were cases of “crashing” which didn’t finish the race.
In the most exciting final race of the open group, the pilot who took off at the same time with Su Keming “blew up” due to operational errors, and finally Su Keming won the championship with a time of 43.5 seconds. He said after the race: “When I saw other airplanes going down, I still had some fluctuations in my heart, but I still have to do my best to do well in the race.”
Xu Liwen, secretary general of Hainan Provincial Aviation Sports Association, said, “This race can be said to be a presentation made after three years of grinding and refining, and we have maintained the consistent characteristics of the Hainan track combined with the natural scenery.”
Typhoon “Terry” impact, the last race day of the championship and related activities are canceled. “It is very unfortunate that the experience activities for the public were not in full swing either. During the open competition day, many of the public visitors who came to watch the competition reflected that they very much welcome us to hold more such events, which can let more people understand the fun of drone racing.” Xu Liwen said.
